Uma teoria aponta a causa da enxaqueca como sendo um distúrbio do sistema nervoso central (SNC). O SNC consiste em cérebro e medula espinhal. Na enxaqueca, diversos estímulos podem provocar uma série de eventos neurológicos e bioquímicos que afetam o sistema vascular cerebral.
